FAQs

What are the benefits of sealing?

Benefits of Sealing include:

  • Protects Against Stains

  • Reduces Mold, Mildew & Algae Growth

  • Prevents Etching & Surface Damage

  • Can Enhances Natural Color & Beauty

  • Makes Cleaning Easier

  • Helps Prevent UV Fading

  • Protects Against Water Intrusion

  • Improves Surface Longevity

Does sealing make the surface slippery?

No. For smooth surfaces like travertine and marble, we use an impregnating sealer rather than a topical coating. Impregnating sealers absorbing below the surface and forming a repellent membrane, where they protect the material from within without forming a film on top. Because they do not create a surface layer, they do not change the texture, finish, or natural slip resistance of the stone. The surface will not become slick or glossy—its traction remains the same as it was before sealing. This makes impregnating sealers the ideal choice for areas where safety and maintaining the natural feel of the material are important.

How long does the sealer last?

The longevity of a sealer can vary based on several factors, including the type of installation, whether the surface is indoors or outdoors, and the specific sealer being applied. Outdoor areas are exposed to harsh UV rays, rain, irrigation, foot traffic, and organic debris, all of which can gradually break down a sealer faster than in controlled indoor environments. Surfaces around pools or in high-traffic areas may also require more frequent maintenance. Additionally, different sealers, such as penetrating, enhancing, or topical coatings, have varying durability and wear characteristics.

As a general guideline, we recommend having your surface re-sealed every 2–3 years to maintain optimal protection and appearance. Some high-use outdoor areas may need attention sooner, while indoor surfaces can often go longer between treatments. Regular resealing ensures continued resistance to staining, moisture absorption, and everyday wear.

Will the sealer prevent algae?

Yes, sealing will inhibit algae, mold, mildew, and other types of contaminants by reducing the amount of moisture that can penetrate into the surface. When a porous material is left unsealed, water, dirt, and organic debris are easily absorbed, creating an ideal environment for biological growth. A high-quality penetrating sealer creates an invisible barrier that keeps moisture on the surface—where it can evaporate more quickly—rather than soaking in. This makes it much harder for algae, mold, and mildew to develop, helping the area stay cleaner, brighter, and easier to maintain. This is a frequently asked question?

Do you clean the pavers before sealing?

Yes, absolutely. We thoroughly clean the pavers before sealing to ensure the best possible results. Proper preparation is one of the most important steps in the sealing process. We begin by removing dirt, algae, mildew, weeds, and any other contaminants using professional cleaning equipment. If needed, we also treat stains, clean out the joints, and reapply fresh joint sand. By starting with a clean, dry, and properly prepared surface, the sealer can bond correctly and provide longer-lasting protection and a more even, attractive finish.

Can you remove old sealer or fix whitening, hazing, or trapped moisture issues?

Yes, when pavers have a white haze, that generally indicates that moisture is trapped beneath the previous coating. In these cases, we will strip the existing coating before applying any new sealer.
